My name is Dan Orr.  I’m the husband to beautiful Meghan and the dad of Isaac and Lily.  I work for Young Life in Wheaton, IL and am in seminary @ Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.

I believe that every person is glory hungry.  Each of us wants to count, to be a somebody, to matter, to be accepted, to be unconditionally loved.  We attempt to satisfy this deep-seated hunger in a myriad of ways (success, sex, power, family approval, etc.).  These good things (success, sex, power, family approval, etc.) become ultimate things in our lives and never satisfy.

The central message of the gospel is that Jesus came to satisfy the longing of our souls and liberate us to love what is most lovely, Himself.  He is the beauty we long to merge with.  He is the One who sets us free from our bondage to things that never satisfy.  We are dead unless we look to Him as our righteousness and when we do, life happens….  love happens…  joy happens…  peace happens…

It’s a beautiful gospel.

You are truly a man of God, I truly believe that God bless us that we can be a blessing to others and you have shown that in so many ways to my family. I’m thankful my son found a man of God. Thanks

Dan,
I was looking for the CS Lewis quote from The Four Loves and ran across your blog. I went to Wheaton Grad School (and TEDS for a few classes) and was a pastor down in Naperville for 8 years before I moved out to Philly a bit ago. Mike/Michelle Zegarski go to my old church as well.

I wanted to send you a little “thank you” gift for posting the Lewis quote (with references), but alas, you’ve wisely hidden your e-mail address well. Drop me a note if you’re interested (or take a look at the website for the mission agency I work for for a preview: http://www.whm.org/gcl)

Either way, thanks for the quote and the other great posts.
