About

My name is Dan Orr.  I’m 31.  Married to beautiful Meghan.  Dad to Isaac (3) and Lily (2). Lived in Wheaton for most of my life, but recently moved to Nashville.  I’m a pastoral intern under Ray Ortlund @ Immanuel Church.

For most of my life, I viewed God as a dissatisfied father.  I tried as hard as I could to make him proud and to make myself acceptable.  It didn’t work.

In recent years, I’ve come to appreciate grace.  His love towards me is not conditional on my performance.  Or put differently, his love towards me is not conditional on me.  Thank you Jesus.  He decided to love me, rescue me, sanctify me, and he will eventually glorify me.  He loves me because he loves me, conditioned on His own desire to do so.

Ephesians 2:4-9

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

This blog exists because I can’t keep this stuff inside.  It’s too good.

You are truly a man of God, I truly believe that God bless us that we can be a blessing to others and you have shown that in so many ways to my family. I’m thankful my son found a man of God. Thanks

    Dan,
I was looking for the CS Lewis quote from The Four Loves and ran across your blog. I went to Wheaton Grad School (and TEDS for a few classes) and was a pastor down in Naperville for 8 years before I moved out to Philly a bit ago. Mike/Michelle Zegarski go to my old church as well.

I wanted to send you a little “thank you” gift for posting the Lewis quote (with references), but alas, you’ve wisely hidden your e-mail address well. Drop me a note if you’re interested (or take a look at the website for the mission agency I work for for a preview: http://www.whm.org/gcl)

Either way, thanks for the quote and the other great posts.
